Later, in October of the same year, an Extinction Rebellion activist was ordered to pay over £1,500 for painting the word 'racist' on the statue's plinth during a climate protest.
The statue, a 3.6-metre monument created by Ivor Roberts-Jones and unveiled by Clementine Churchill, the former prime minister's wife, in 1973, stands among 12 other statues in Parliament Square, honoring well-known statesmen like Abraham Lincoln and Nelson Mandela.
