Jack Roush: NASCAR's Legendary Team Owner and Innovator | Bill France Award of Excellence (2026)

Jack Roush Receives the Highly Coveted Bill France Award of Excellence from NASCAR

DARLINGTON, SOUTH CAROLINA - On May 12, 2024, during the NASCAR Cup Series Goodyear 400 at Darlington Raceway, a momentous occasion took place as Jack Roush, the founder of RFK Racing, was celebrated for his exemplary contributions to the world of motorsports. Known for his innovative spirit and leadership, Roush was bestowed with the distinguished Bill France Award of Excellence, an honor that recognizes individuals whose influence has significantly shaped the sport over many years.

The Bill France Award of Excellence stands as NASCAR’s highest accolade, reserved for those who have made profound and enduring positive impacts on the racing community. Since its inception in 1953, this award has been sparingly given, underscoring its significance. With this latest recognition, Roush has the unique distinction of being the first person to receive the Bill France Award of Excellence on two separate occasions, having initially been honored in 2001.

Jim France, NASCAR’s Chairman and CEO, remarked, "For decades, Jack Roush has played a pivotal role in advancing NASCAR while remaining committed to the core values that define our sport. He has not only built teams capable of winning championships but has also nurtured countless drivers and leaders within the industry. Jack's legacy transcends mere victories; it resonates throughout the sport, embodying the very essence of what this award aims to celebrate."

Inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame in 2019, Roush established Roush Racing—now known as Roush Fenway Keselowski Racing—in 1988. He quickly transformed it into one of NASCAR’s most impactful organizations, leading his teams to multiple national series championships and accumulating an impressive total of 331 victories across all three of NASCAR’s premier series. Nicknamed “The Cat in the Hat,” Roush is recognized for his keen eye for talent, having played a crucial role in the careers of notable drivers such as Mark Martin, Matt Kenseth, Kurt Busch, and others. His academic background in mathematics and engineering has contributed to his meticulous and innovative approach to racing, significantly influencing the sport’s modern era. This particular recognition coincides with the 50th anniversary of Roush Industries, celebrating five decades of excellence and leadership in the field of motorsports and beyond.
